NJCAA ALL-ACADEMIC

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Alvin Community College softball player Aliyah Vela earned National Junior College Athletic Association Second Team All-Academic honors.

To be eligible for the NJCAA All-Academic awards, a student-athlete must post a grade point average of 3.6 or higher for the academic year, and complete at least 24 credit hours. Students who earn the necessary credits to graduate by December are not required to fulfill the 24 credit hour requirements. Student-athletes who earn a 4.0 GPA for the entire academic year are named First Team All-Academic. Those who post GPAs between 3.8 and 3.99 earn Second Team All-Academic. Student-athletes with a GPA between 3.6 and 3.79 are named Third Team All-Academic.

Vela had 10 hits, including a double, and drove in four runs, while stealing two bases this past season.
