Alvin College Club Basketball to Host First Home Basketball Game Since 1992.
The Alvin College Dolphins will play their first home basketball game since the 1991-1992 season, the final season of ACC Varsity Basketball, as they host Community Christian College in their home opener on Friday October 3rd, at 7:30PM.
Alvin College is amid their first ever Club Basketball season, competing in the Lone Star Sport Club Conference. The season began on September 26th, with a 60-34 loss at Lone Star-North Harris. Before that could happen, Head Basketball Coach Brandon Webb had to assemble a team from scratch. "I really want to thank Coach Rios and Dr. Vasquez for providing me this opportunity. A lot of work went in to making this happen, and I'm thankful that they have placed their trust in me. This process has been a roller coaster, but I've enjoyed every moment so far. There is so much that goes into collegiate basketball, even at the club level, so I've been adjusting and trying to soak up as much knowledge and experience as I can." said Coach Webb.
Coming off of a loss, Coach Webb was asked what would be considered a successful first season to him, "I believe a successful first season would be seeing a group of young men come together, push each other daily, and start to build real relationships that go deeper than basketball. As much as I hate to lose and expect to win, I wouldn't judge this season merely by wins and losses. I have faith that a successful season would be this inaugural team all buying into the same mindset of competing hard, playing fast, communicating well, being coachable, playing for one another, and growing their character. In doing this, they will lay a firm foundation for the future of Alvin basketball and set the expectations for future players and coaches in this program."
"Coach Rios and Dr. Vasquez have put in an enormous amount of work to make this club team possible, but I believe that's just the start. My vision for ACC basketball is to help grow this organization to join softball and baseball and compete at the NJCAA level. I know that with the right mindset, the correct work ethic, and the right people involved, club will only be the beginning." Said Coach Webb.
ACC Club Basketball will play a total of seven regular season games, playing against teams like Lone Star, Rice and Texas Southern. The only other home game this season will be on November 14th, against LSC- Cy Fair.
