Bio
Oscar Reed, a dedicated and strategic recruiter, joins the Alvin Baseball staff as the Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Pitching Coach. Reed comes from a successful three-year tenure as Head Coach with the Houston Wildcatters Organization, bringing extensive experience from high school, select, and NCAA Division I levels.
Originally from New Orleans, LA, Reed launched his coaching career in 2010 as the Head Baseball Coach for Crescent City Baptist High School in Metairie, Louisiana. During his first year, his team’s high-powered offense averaged 10 runs per game, achieving a 20-7 record and advancing to the second round of the Louisiana state playoffs.
In 2012, Reed took an internship at Houston Christian University, working with Athletic Director Steve Moniaci and Assistant Athletic Director David Moss in Compliance and Academics. The following year, he returned to the field as the Pitching Coach for Prairie View A&M University under Head Coach Waskayla Cullivan.
By 2015, Reed had joined Alcorn State University as the Pitching Coach and was soon promoted to Hitting Coach, managing the team’s offense. Later that season, he stepped in as the interim Head Baseball Coach, overseeing daily operations.
In 2016, Reed took on the role of Head Baseball Coach at Leesville High School in Louisiana. Over two seasons, he led the Wampus Cats to consecutive LHSAA State Tournament appearances, ending a four-year playoff drought and improving the team’s winning percentage by 50%. His pitching staff posted a 3.79 ERA, and three players earned college baseball scholarships, including Johnathan Harmon, who was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 13th round of the 2022 MLB draft. Under Reed’s leadership, the team maintained a 3.0+ GPA and a 100% graduation rate. Reed also led successful marketing and fundraising initiatives.
As a former two-year letterwinner at Prairie View A&M University, Reed batted .351 with 3 home runs, 15 doubles, and 33 RBIs in his senior year. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from PVAMU in 2009, an associate degree from Baton Rouge Community College in 2007, and a master’s degree in Sports Administration from Canisius University in 2012. Reed is a proud member of the American Baseball Coaches Association.
