ACC Softball pushes win streak to four games after sweep of Kilgore.
Kilgore, TX- The Alvin Community College Softball team extended their winning streak to four games after their doubleheader sweep over Kilgore on Monday. ACC took game one by a score of 13-3 (F5). The Dolphins struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning, followed by a five run outburst in the top of the second inning. ACC went scoreless in the third inning, before adding three runs in the top of the fourth and the top of the fifth. Starting Pitcher Sophie Brammer earned the victory, pitching all five innings and striking out her second highest mark of the season, with eight strikeouts. Catcher Jadyn Granere, had a whale of a ballgame in game one, going 4-4 with 7 RBI's. Third Baseman Izzy Doggett, started off her monster day, reaching base safely in all four trips to the plate, while adding a double, two RBI's and scoring four runs. First Baseman Savannah Salazar went 2-2 with a walk, also adding two RBI's. ACC outhit Kilgore 13-4 in that first game.
Game two of the doubleheader once again saw ACC strike first, scoring a run in the top of the first, with an RBI single from Catcher Izzy Doggett that drove in leadoff hitter and Shortstop Mireya "Yaya" Silva. Kilgore would tie it up in the bottom of the second with an RBI ground out from Ranger Kennzie Norton. ACC retook the lead in the top of the third with an RBI sac fly from Left Fielder Emili Garza that drove in Second Baseman Brooke Martin after her leadoff double. Three runs in the top of the fourth would give ACC a 5-1 lead. After three runs scored in the bottom of the fifth, the Dolphins would find themselves in a hairy situation with the bases loaded, 1 out, and the score sitting 5-4. Head Coach Jerri Torres-Farmer would call to the bullpen for Delaney Gray. Gray came in and immediately struck out the first batter she faced on just four pitches, before getting a weak pop up from the next batter to get out of the jam. ACC would tack on four more insurance runs in the top of the sixth, on the back of a three-run homer from Izzy Doggett over the left field fence. Starting Pitcher Beanka Galan earned the win, allowing four runs in four innings. Reliver Delaney Gray shut the door on the Rangers, closing the game out with two and two thirds innings of scoreless ball in relief, including three strikeouts. The Dolphins pitching staff did not issue a single walk in game two, and struckout five Rangers. ACC added another twelve hits in their 9-4 victory over Kilgore, in what has been a torrid week of hitting for the Dolphins as they amassed 75 hits in six contests. Izzy Doggett had a career day, reaching base safely in all eight trips to the plate, with five base hits, five RBI's, five runs, three walks, a double and her second homerun of the young season.
