ACC’s four home runs propel Dolphins to run rule victory over San Jac
ACC took game one of their three game series against San Jacinto, with a final score of 11-2 (F8) after a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning triggered the run rule.
A leadoff double in the bottom of the first inning from Alex Guajardo and a two-run homer from Tanner Marek got ACC on the board and out to a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Caden Miller deposited a solo homer over the left field fence, to stretch the lead to three runs. A leadoff solo homer that went over 400 feet from Hayden Carpenter made it a four-run lead for the Dolphins. In the bottom of the fifth, a wild pitch with the bases loaded scored Guejardo, before Ayden Pearcy singled scoring Marek. Dolphins starting pitcher Josh Pena's day ended after five innings of not allowing a hit or run. Pena pitched out of danger throughout the second, third, fourth and fifth innings, as he walked six Ravens, hit a batter and had a runner reach on a dropped third strike. Pena struck out five and earned the victory. San Jac got on the board with a two-run single from long time big leaguer Jamie Moyer's son, McCabe, which proved to be the only hit of the ball game. Leading 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Tanner Marek scored on a passed ball, and Cade Baker scored on a fielder's choice to make it 8-2. Marek would come up to bat in the bottom of the eighth with two on and nobody out, when the Dolphins team leader in RBI's took an 0-2 pitch out to right field, ending the ball game with an 11-2 run rule victory.
Tanner Marek went 3-5 with two home runs, five RBI's, and 4 runs scored. Alex Guejardo went 3-4 with two doubles, a walk and three runs. Caden Miller went 2-2 with a home run and two walks. Josh Pena (5IP), Reagan James (2IP) and Ryne Kaiser (1IP) combined for eight innings of one hit ball with nine strikeouts, although they did walk ten and hit another 3 Ravens.
ACC has won four straight contests and improved to 5-3 in conference play with the win. The Dolphins are now 16-6 overall.
ACC will finish out their three-game series against San Jac with a doubleheader at their place on Saturday.
