ACC Softball Sweeps Coastal Bend at Home
Alvin Community College Softball took both games of their doubleheader vs Coastal Bend on Wednesday April 2nd.
In the first game, ACC fell behind 3-0 in the top of the first inning, after Coastal Bend scored on a two run double from Emily Mayo and an RBI single from Viviana Garza. The Dolphins would get on the board in the bottom of the third inning, with a squeeze bunt from Alexia Arambula, add a second run on an error by Coastal Bend, tie the game with an RBI double from Savannah Salazar, take the lead on another error, score the fifth run of the inning on an RBI double by Yaya Silva, and score their sixth and final run of the inning on another error. In the bottom of the fourth, ACC would score their last two runs of the game on a two run single by Sophie Brammer. The Dolphins starting pitcher BeAnka Galan pitched six innings without allowing an earned run, striking out three Cougars. Alexis Tamez pitched a scoreless top of the seventh to close out Coastal Bend.
Game two of the doubleheader was all ACC, as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Izzy Doggett. An Izzy Jacoby sac fly, an Emili Garza RBI single, and another sac fly from Savannah Salazar put the Dolphins up 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning. ACC increased the lead to six in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two run single by Savannah Salazar. A hit by pitch of Alexxis Moreno drove in another run, getting the Dolphins one run away from a run rule victory. Yaya Silva came up to bat with the bases loaded and one out, and hit a walk-off single to put away the Cougars via the run rule. Haley Vinton tossed five shutout innings for ACC, striking out five. Silva and Salazar both drove in two runs for ACC.
Alvin Community College's Softball team improved to 20-20 on the season and 7-7 in conference play with the sweep.
